Orthodontics are used for a variety of reasons. Most orthodontics is applied when a person is young, usually around the teenage years. You may be suffering from several problems, including crowded teeth or uneven teeth. These problems with your teeth can affect the way you speak or the way you eat and chew.
As your teeth come in, you might notice that they are not straight, or they do not sit on top of each other properly (underbite or overbite). The most common orthodontic treatment is braces. Braces will move teeth, over time, into a different position. Sometimes, before braces can be applied, other services must be performed. If you have a narrow pallet, they can install a device that will spread your actual mouth to make it wider (a pallet expander). If you have too many teeth that are crowded or on top of each other, you may need to get some removed.
When your mouth is ready, the dentist will install wire braces on your teeth, along with small rubber bands, springs, anchors and wires. The braces create continuous pressure to the teeth, thus changing the shape of the bone. They will reshape your tooth placement and create straight teeth. We can make sure you get that perfect smile.
If you do not want traditional braces, we also offer Invisalign. This uses the same concept as braces but is accomplished with a series of clear aligners. The aligners put pressure on the teeth to gently move them into a straighter position. This is an easier way to get your teeth straight because the aligners are removable and there is no restriction on food. While not every patient is a good candidate for Invisalign, if you come in we can give you an initial consultation and let you know your options.
