Frequently Asked Questions

Information from Our Skilled Denver Orthodontist

For a vast majority of young children and teens, braces are a necessity. But what exactly does that entail? Do they need traditional braces or Invisalign? Will they hurt? How long will they need to wear them? In an effort to help you make informed dental care decisions, we’ve answered some of our most frequently asked questions about orthodontic treatment and braces.

If you don't see your question answered below, call us today at Speaks Orthodontics at (720) 513-3743 to speak with our caring professionals.

What are the benefits of braces?

There are both short-term and long-term benefits of receiving braces, such as:

  • Proper alignment of teeth
  • Improvements in dental hygiene
  • Teeth protection
  • Ability to bite and chew properly
  • Self-confidence boost

How long will I have to wear braces?

The amount of time varies depending on the individual patient. Treatment times can take anywhere between six and 30 months, but most standard treatments take about 22 months.

Do braces hurt?

When you first undergo this orthodontic treatment, you may feel a small amount of discomfort for a couple of days while your teeth, gums, and cheeks become accustomed to the metal in your mouth. However, after this time, your braces shouldn’t hurt. If you notice persistent pain, contact us immediately.

What is Invisalign?

This treatment is an invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always wanted. You will have to wear a series of clear aligners, custom-made for your teeth. Each set is replaced after two weeks until the ideal position of your teeth is achieved.

What is the difference between traditional braces and In-Ovation?

Elastics and ties used in older braces put pressure and friction on teeth which slows treatment and causes discomfort. With the In-Ovation R system, teeth are free to move more quickly, easily, and comfortably. Depending on your treatment needs, you can achieve your smile goals months sooner with In-Ovation than with traditional braces.

At Speaks Orthodontics, we can repair any broken braces, answer general questions, and address any irregularities such as cavities or gingivitis. Our family of patients is our greatest asset, and we care about the entire patient, not just their teeth.
